color contacts when adjusting joint limits

color contacts when adjusting joint limits

When you adjust a joint limit it would be nice to change the color of other objects if your part contacts it. Basically, it'd be a much faster way to do contacts. The issue with contacts is you just get locked up immediately if your model is complex, or you have to carefully create contact sets. I'm doing a test on a pelican-like case. So the joint itself seems to contact Several times, causing the contacts to stutter so much that they are unusable even with the only contact set being the top and bottom. So I'd have to make some special copies of the geometry with just the lid lips and the back sections with rigid joints between the objects.

Hey, that's a lot of work just to get the darn thing to stop once it's fully open/closed right?

Instead, I'll just create a simple revolute and set the min and max. The min is obvious. In fact, it's modeled closed. So in place joint here we come.

But Max is odd. I just need to rotate it until a part hits. But I can't tell when it hits. So let me activate something that highlights parts as it comes in contact with them.

Extra points if you guys can actually paint the vertexes so it's easier to tell exactly where the contact is occurring. But I'm guessing that's a bit more complicated.

And extra points to ignore initial contact area. Often you might get a model where the model joint is modeled against the other piece. That causes your contact system to Freak out.

tl;dr? As a lighter weight contact system, just highlight the contact parts instead of making them stop in order to see when you manually set your own min/max.
