On the linking tab on many operations, there is are two selection tools called "entry position" and "pre-drill" position. Entry position will put the beginning of the toolpath reasonably close to the selected object with the given lead parameters. It doesn't have to be a selection on the contour itself to work. Pre-drill position forces the tool to enter precisely on a selected point.
