Hi all,
Fusion 360 never used a layer system because it follows a timeline or the capture design history and its philosophy follows the old-style cad-cam features hierarchy.
I never used this feature, in Fusion 360 I model as I do with Rhinoceros then definitely whe need a layering system.
By the way the layering system can be disconnected from the modeling history timeline, these are two separated things.
Also Fusion 360 is an hybrid modeler, it want to be Alias or Rhinoceros but it's not easy to use like these two programs. It want to be the best direct modeling program? Yes, probably it is but at the moment Spaceclaim it's a lot faster to repair geometries.
Fusion want to be a renderer like Keyshot? Yes but the way it's too long...
Fusion 360 want to be a good animator to show basic 3d movements? Yes but at the moment the animation part is not well programmed. We can't, for example, reverse a sequence....
There are a lot of features to add, but as I said in many posts it's easy to study how the other programs do that particular job and see how it can be improved....

Well, when we create complex assemblies we get a long list of objects that we can't organize very well. It depends by the complexity.
Very often I import complex assemblies from other cad software and I have to scroll this long list without sort names or features.
Then I suggest to:
#01 Make a layer explorer browser from where we can decide to visualize what we want: only sketches, planes, open surfaces, bodies, cameras, related materials or wathever we want.
#02 Make views as real cameras and not only "views". Every camera will have its own properties, I can swith on a particular camera and it will have perspective properties, or another cam with isometric properties. At the moment with have a fixed switch for all views. Don't call it views but cameras.
#03 When we expand body properties we have to open another panel to see the attached materials. I prefer to see the materials visualized as spheres in the same structure tree. See Cinema 4D browser to have an idea on what I'm talking about.
#04 Make the browser not transparent!!! Please! Or add an option to see the background not transparent not only whe its floating. Names sometime are confusing with background geometry.
#05 Make filter selections, do we want to visualize all the sketches only? Yes, we can.
#06 In Fusion we don't have lights because they can be planar shapes emitting lights. This is a missing feature, definitively we need: plane, spot, spherical, dome lights and we want them also visible in the browser.
#07 When I import in 3ds Max complex models I can batch rename a bunch of parts and immediately put them on layers. Simple and well organized job! Then let's make a batch rename tool.
#08 Collapse all!!! When you open a lot of components how do you close them? Really do you need to pick again that tiny arrow for each opened component?
#09 Make origin folders visible as an option...there are too many folders in the list!
