blend curve for sketches

blend curve for sketches

While Fusion splines have tangent and smooth handles and constraints the workflow is labor intensive and prone to be hard

to use when for example you encounter sketch engine solver bugs or issues.

So below is a design with half a model. To make it somewhat usable everything has to be constraint - that means for each half of the sketch all relevant G1 G2 handles have to be taken care off. Thats a lot of extra work. In addition the major shortcomming of fit point based splines is adjusting one handle of one point affects the complete curve. Thats rather terrible when when you created a nice profile because now you have to enjoy adjusting everything else as well to make it fit again.

A much better appraoch would be to work with two halfs and span a blend curve inbetween like I did with Moi here

which is a common workflow in any other surface modeler as well. The advantage is that I only have to deal with

the points of the half side and the blend will update automatically.

In the example above when I change the curve that is right above the nose also the cuvres aling the nose will change - not good at all.

This is a duplicate request because the initial first idea is from  ‎11-12-2013 and the second time I asked for it was from 07-26-2014. We have now 18-6-2015. So what about 11-7-2017? We might have then this tool? Sorry could not resist the tease.

Yes, it needs to be super easy and symetry needs to be automaticlly maintained when you mirror it, tangancy must be automatic as will if that is what is desired. For the average user it needs to be dead nuts simple. SO simple that my MOM could use it. ALways ask yourself does this pass the MOM test....!

@eric_strebelThe time we tried to make it work considering also the sketch solver problems like points swimming and not moving the way you want or bugs like the image below is way too expensive compared to a simple mirror + blend command mouse click and then move some sliders to adjust blend value and then move some CVs to finetune the nose area. That part took around 3 minutes in MOI.

Excellent, nice to see this gather support.

-Hold symentry and tangancy at the center if this is desired, have this as an option or check box or something.

-Make ONE center point, not "TWO" when you intiate symentry

-Make sure the adjustemnt handles to the right and the left points (or top and bottom points) of the center have symentry automatically as well.

-Mark the center point with a differnt color or shape too, so we know it's the center, make it MOM easy 🙂
