Automatically assign different materials to new components

Automatically assign different materials to new components

When I make a new component it is very helpful if that body is not the same color as everything else in the drawing.

  • This helps identify which faces belongs to which component.
  • It also helps identify which components are copies or patterns.

I'd like the ability to automatically rotate through a material library and assign a different material to each new component as its created.

Other ways to help with this request:

  • Make it quicker to assign a material color without having to make a whole new material
  • Decouple material properties from appearance
  • Have a ready made set of matrerials that look good and have contrasting colors so I dont have to keep making my own.
  • Share material sets across installs

Appearance and Materials are 2 different things, you can assign a steel material for example and have the appearance to be chrome or even painted.

Fusion already has what you want and it's called component cycling toggle, it's purely for identification purposes as each time you close your model and open it, it'll assign a new set of colors.

Thats very handy. I'll try that feature out!
