Attach Canvas/Image from Cloud & Drag-Drop from Data Panel

Attach Canvas/Image from Cloud & Drag-Drop from Data Panel

Idea is to allow cloud selection of canvas instead of always looking up your local drives i.e.desktop. As you can see in the image attached when you select to add in a canvas the only option is for local drives. Ideas for improvement are:

  1. allow cloud storage as an option for loading canvas such as:
    1. Fusion 360 data panel
    2. A360 (allow to select from a browser but also to inject in from within A360 itself)
    3. Dropbox, Google Drive or other accounts such as this
  2. Drag and drop from the Fusion 360 data panel as you can with a model/mesh

This cam e about because I went to the effort of capturing an image to use as a reference in a new design and after loading it from my mobile phone through the Fusion 360 app on Android I found this then didn't give me any more benefits in workflow than if i had saved the image to my desktop from my phone.

Cheers!!

@colin.smith, thanks for the bump to Future Consideration!

Can I ask that when this gets looked into that it is expanded upon for every interaction similar to this i.e. Meshes, Decals, Models, etc. as I think that consistency across this would be of benefit.

With particular reference to Canvas Insert the following items are things I would appreciate you taking into consideration on this Idea:

Canvas/Image

  1. Drag and drop from the Data Panel
  2. Right click and insert from Data Panel (you can for a fusion model or mesh)
  3. Insert Canvas from Ribbon opens up a more intelligent dialogue box that doesn't default to Windows Explorer i.e. has option for cloud account upload (i.e. A360, DropBox, Google Drive, etc.) as well as drag and drop into the dialogue box like the model uploader window

100% agree !
It is a pity to not be able to simply drag and drop the image file as we of course could think we are able to do !

For instance on course : http://f360ap.autodesk.com/courses/conceptual-modeling-fundamentals/lessons/lesson-1-basics-of-tspli...

as a new user I can't understand why I have to

1) download the image on my local hard drive

2) then load again to insert the image into my design

because I have already this image here under my eyes within the data panel, so confusing it is !

Hoping this will help to push the stuff up a bit 😉

@colin.smith I noticed a user on the forums asking about this capability and thought I'd check to see if it has progressed at all See link below for reference:

Hi @lokiidesigns,

I'm no longer on the Fusion 360 team.  Best to direct this question to @lucasproko.

Thanks

HI @lucasproko,

@colin.smith mentioned I should get in touch with you on this one. I haven't seen a roadmap for Fusion 360 for 2018 as of yet and whilst not saying this is something that should feature on it specifically it would be nice to see it come to fruition. Any insight on this is appreciated.

It would be a great thing.

When I prepare the material for the students of my course I do it not in the classroom.
Load the reference images in the cloud in the class folder, each student is then forced to download it on their desktop with a considerable waste of time.

In the logic of the cloud this function is to be implemented "quickly" 😉

Just checking what the status is on this one. I too don't understand the workflow how it is right now. In my view Fusion was meant to work as a cloud based CAD program from the beginning, and the mobile apps add to this vision. I'm curious what the reason is for current work flow.

My mind is boggled that the developers didn't see how obvious this feature is. It was within my first few hours of using the program that I ran into this but didn't think to look up how to deal with it until now.
