Apply default axis modeling orientation also to export tools

so when you set the axis and then create a design and then later export an STL model

the STL file has the correct up vector.

If I create a design, then change the default orientation and then export and STL the stl model remains the orientation the design was created in

and that can lead to many problems.

so I would propose to adjust the Fusion code that whent they export the mesh the use the orientation specified in the preferences!

When the model orientation is changed in the preferences it will then be applied to each new document that is created.  Subsequently that document oreintation is applied when an STL file is created.  The STL file doesn't have an orientation.  It simply records vertex location in XYZ so the Y or Z up orientation of the current document will be applied.

If a design has previously be created and I subsequently change the orientation in the preferences that change is not reflected in the current document.  It is only applied to the next document that is created.

It could be confusing if the preferences which are defining new document orientation requirements are applied to export orientations.  What is the workflow you want to support?  There may be another approach that would allow the user to specify orientation for each specific export.
