Angle adjustment for lighting in render mode

Angle adjustment for lighting in render mode

Currently in render mode, lighting can only be rotated on the XY plane.

I suggest the rotation of lighting can be adjustable to different spots out of a sphere or even that the lighting target can be moved/shifted (just like 3ds Max), in order to create more interesting lighting and shadow in renderings.

I can see maybe some rotation around the the object, but the system uses spherical HDR images of real environments, not 3D light source objects...??

Rotating hdri files will not make sense when the reflections are the. Also rotated

this is the draw back of pure hdri Ibl based rendering

I just dealt with this last night. I wanted simple 3-point lighting, so the only way I could figure out how to do that was to create a black environment in Photoshop with three round spots on it of differing sizes and colors, and import it as a custom environment. It worked great, but if I wanted to adjust something, I had to change it in Photoshop, and reimport it into Fusion 360. What a pain.

Why can't we build custom environments right in Fusion? All I need is a background color (or gradient), and the ability to add an arbitrary number of simple shapes to the environment image, each with adjustable size, color, and coordinates. Super simple. It would be nice to adjust each shape on the fly, and see the effect on the lighting in real time.

I think Autodesk's focus with the build-in render engine is to strike a balance between simplicity

easy of learning and tools most common users actually only use.

What you and I need are more advanced studio design tools probably the majority of users do not use.

So for such needs you can use external engines. If you want one that is nicely tight to Fusion then look

at Thea Render. It is very affordable and in terms of speed and ease of use and beats the more expensive

products.
