Allow Grouping of Components in a Folder

Allow Grouping of Components in a Folder

Currently I could group them in a component to create a sub-assembly, but that isn't always what is wanted.

EXAMPLE:

I have a fairly large assembly with a very large list of components. A lot of those components are repeated. A good example is the hardware. So lets say I have twenty 1/4-20's in my assembly. I don't want them to be in a sub assembly, as my BOM would only count the quantity as one. I don't really want the BOM to dive deep into the sub-assemblies, as they themselves contain a lot of parts, and have their own drawing with a BOM. So currently I have to have a massive list with the 1/4-20's repeated over and over again.

SOLUTION:

Easiest solution I can see is to just give the option of having a folder in your browser. Much like we have in the CAM section under a setup to group operations. Give us a folder to group similar components and clean up the browser for easier navigation. This would also come in handy to organize components to further clean up the browser tree. This would make browsing through all the components massively improved.

Love this idea! It would be very helpful

This idea would be great! Has there been any development on this since it was previously posted? My assemblies have a large list of components and sub folders would allow me to organize my drawings better.

Here is one example of what I am looking at with my assemblies. We really need a way to group component in a model.

Do we have a solution to this yet? My assemblies have a lot of hardware also, and it makes a nightmare of my browser.

I'm playing around with Bommer and Open BOM to generate BOM lists for hardware. Both are capable of recognizing components inside of components, which helps my workflow a lot. Depending on which plugin you use, you can generate Excel spreadsheets or PDFs. Both are highly customize-able.

Will try to update this thread as I refine the workflow.

Hey Buck!

So my name is James, co-founder of Bommer! I would be really interested in the opportunity to pick your brain after using both Bommer and open BOM to improve your workflow! I will shoot you an email but I would like to schedule some time to talk!
