Accessible Unser Parameters for linked assemblies and components

When linking existing components and assemblies (X-REFs) into a new design for re-use at the moment there is no way to change anyting in that linked assembly. It would however be a very nice thing if one would at least have access to some user configurable parameters.

For example if the assemly that is to be re-used is a linear bearin and rail assembly one may want to cheng eht position of the bearing on the rail without having to creat a new version of the assembly, or without breaking the link.

Here is another example in ascreencast.

I would like to add my support to this idea. Like what rdevelop said above, it would also be really nice to have control over the scope of different variables: for example, sometimes I may want ALL my gears, in various subfolders, to become slightly thicker, sometimes I may want only all the gears in a certain folder, and sometimes I may be applying a tweak to one specific gear.

I am just discovering Fusion, it lacks so much basic features, I am really not sure who is the program being developed for.. why there even exists Fusion, when the Autodesk has Inventor? 😕

@Reloecc It's really not a basic feature and it took a while for these features to be developed in Solid Works as well. (I've used it since 1998).

Given hat you asked what's the difference between Fusion 360 and Inventor, maybe do some basic fact chancing and compare features and price tags.

Please, Developers of Fusion. This functionality would enrich Fusion so much!! How logic it is to have a parameter connected to a component and be able to load components and set those parameters without breaking the links. Please do your best and start coding, this is a must have for the future of Fusion

5 years later and still no implementation?? This would be a game changer... can this be done in solid works? I’m looking for a cad programme that will do this and also nest parts..

Kind-of. You can create configurations within your components in Solidworks, and then select configurations from the assembly. For example, you could have one solidworks part for screws that can be configured in all the sizes that you use, then add it everywhere a screw is used and choose the size as appropriate.
