Ability to organize User Parameters into folders

Ability to organize User Parameters into folders

It would be really helpful to be able to organize user parameters - specifically, to be able to create folders/categories to contain them. Once you have a long list of parameters, it's hard to deal with (although the autocomplete has done wonders to help). At a minimum, being able to reorder the list would be helpful. Both would be ideal.

It would be nice to also be able to add local rules ther only works inside of the feature (local scope)

In the above example, the d19 variable can be changed to another name like part_diam and be used in other places. This puts it in a folder.  I do not know if this is proper usage.  I also name my variables with a prefix like p1_diam and p2_diam to keep track of them. The ability to sort would group all the prefixes together. While this is not a folder, all the prefix items are listed together.

i would like to see a better ParameterIO, I always get an error when I try to use it.

Status changed to: Future Consideration

Thank you for your idea, this is being changed to future consideration.  We have it in our backlog to be able to expose your favorite parameters in the browser as a way to access them in the model.

That's a different but related feature, Mike. I'd like to see that too - although now that we have the autofill of parameters when typing, it might not be that useful.

It would be nice to also be able to copy parameters from one design to another

I agree - being able to organize parameters into folders would be incredibly helpful even for small projects.

The user parameters are one of the best parts of Fusion and save a lot of time. Yet once you've got more than, say, 20, it becomes hard to remember what's what no matter how good one's naming convention is.

I logged on today to suggest this feature as well.  I often have highly parametric designs that use unitless parameters to drive other aspects of the design.   Like this for example

Parameter "Height_Position" is unitless, and I can specify a number 0-9

Then that parameter drives another one like this

Parameter "CALC_HEIGHT_POSITION"="3 in + ( ( 0.25 * BT_Height_Position ) * 1 in )"

This intended dimension on the sketch is set to "CALC_HEIGHT_POSITION", this allows me to change dimensions in .25" increments based on the number.  The application of this is to be able to define a custom part by a series of numbers.  For Example part AN-4416, where AN is the component name and each following digit is a number 0-9 that increments a given dimension.  the AN component might be a cube with a hole in the center, with each digit in the part number representing the following cube height, cube width, cube depth, hole diameter.

In my application we start with a basic design, which is modified to the customers need. This allows anyone in the production process to specify the proper part to be made just by using a sizing guide that correlates the part name with the critical dimensions of the part.

This system also permits employees with no experience in fusion to output DXF's for our customized products very easily, they simply open the design, change the critical parameters based on the model name, and then create a sketch and export it.   It is a huge asset to us.

This is probably a fairly unique workflow that doesn't apply to many people, but it requires a large number of parameters which can get complex.  It get even more challenging since a given fusion design may have 15 or more components, each with shared and unique parameters and sorting through them to find the right parameter can be quite a challenge.

Hope to see it included soon!

To reiterate the original post: The best new feature related to parameters would simply be able to move the parameters up and down in the list. That way, we can keep them grouped close by each other as we think through setting values without having to scroll up and down so much.  I would like to have my parameters in order of what depends on what.

Having the ability to put them into sub groups would be very nice also. But the question becomes whether or not the sub group name plays a role in the usage of the parameter.  That starts to get messy.  But even if parameters are in sub groups, I'd still like the ability to re-order them.

Therefore, re-ordering is more important than sub groups.
