3D sketching
Some more 3D sketching options would be great - rather than having to make a plane for each sketch, being able to do some more multiplanar sketches or compound curves in space would be invaluable
@leowarren34 I am in no way offended, moreover, in spite of the sharpness of expression, I respect all here. There are things that relate to things and each thing has to call his name. Please forgive my English. With all due respect, I have to say that a full-fledged way to create curves in space is not a preregative of heavy systems, and even medium CAD. This is just the right part of modeling. It's obvious. These are faced equally by the guys from startups and guys in large companies. Now about the cost and level of the product. Rhino costs about $ 1000, MoI3D is even cheaper, but there is such a possibility, you can create and edit 3D space curves in a full way, it is intuitive and easy to work, because it is necessary for modeling. Rhino does not belong to the average CAD, does not belong to the high CAD, these are products with its market share and price, but it has such necessary things for basic modeling. In addition to Rhino, we know MoI3d, Solidthinking, Alias, and all of them are tools of different levels in one niche, but all have basic tools for curves in 3D space. As you can see, the presence of the possibility to build curves, lines and arches in 3D space in a simple and convenient way does not apply to the price or level of software.
Now about the differentiation of CAD tools Fusion 360 and Inventor for different market niches. Yes, Inventor has much more functionality than Fusion 360. But if we look at the basic functions of modeling only, then in Inventor surfaces and curves are also very weak, this is often not enough for a full-fledged design. You have to compromise all the time, and it hurts. I see that the quality of the surface and curve Toolkit in both Fusion 360 and Inventor is a misplaced task for developers, from people who are responsible for the functionality of the system. 3D sketch is only a special case of this limited functionality. Probably a mistake of the makers of products including.
To Refine this functionality, developers will have to dig deep, and I understand why they are in no hurry to do it.
In fact, in the sketch curves (splines), which, if not coplanar on the initially selected plane, it loses its binding, loses tangency, curvature to other spatial curves (drawn or projected), and generally poorly managed. We are forced to export geometry to other systems, make part of the design there, or forge a way to do it in Fusion, sacrificing the quality of the geometry. This causes design delays, and these are real problems.
No need to repeat the functionality of Inventor, solidworks and others, just give people the usual, but unbound from the plane tool to build curves, arches, lines in 3d space independently.
You can argue as much as you want, cover this annoying defect of the system with other features, but people who really work, who need curves in 3D space, they really suffer. All the best!
Thanks for the understanding, sorry if the tone of my comments are sharper than I intend, I mean no harm but doesnt always come across and whilst I may come across to defend Autodesk I've used 3d CAD for a long time and beta test, getting features takes a long time. Whilst I do think 3D sketching needs an overhaul a typical industry trend is that enterprise invest in software and years down the line we get better products. I do believe things may be coming but having many products is a good way to make money but with all the integration between apps we hopefull will have improvements where we would like.
