As you might have seen in the November 2021 What’s New, you can now view assembly structure, external and internal components, and granular information about a design outside Fusion 360 via Component View, available as a teach preview in Fusion Team.

Learn more about Component View on the Fusion 360 blog.  For instructions on how to enable the Component View preview in Fusion Team, visit the help article here.  For general instructions on how to use the view, visit the help page here.

If you’ve been testing out Component View, let us know what you think by commenting here – use the thread below to submit feedback and ask questions.

We look forward to discussing!

I am assuming that this functionality is going to be extended, in part based on the feedback provided here.

At first sight the functionality is very nice, but I already want more 😉

1. When I open a folder I cannot see what is a single component and what is a component group (assembly).

It would be great to be able to see the difference. I often download assemblies from other forum users to help them with their needs. When they nest component groups deeply, navigating the structure just through the data panel becomes painful. That is particularly the case if you wan to delete the whole assembly with all sub-assemblies components. Being able to not only drill down, but drill up in the structure would also be very nice.

2. As promised the structure also shows linked and derived components and component groups. In more complex projects or with reuse there is currently no way to find the location of the folder the source is located in. The only way to find it is the rudimentary search functionality of the data panel. Having simple and easy way to get to the folder the source is located in would be very helpful.

I just a a quick look,

Ok, I like the idea but, theres too many issues.

1) The Image /icon are to small, the size should change as you change the column width of the thumbnail

2) If you have and PCB design, too much rubbish is shown! ( which is because fusion does not structure its PCB's correctly in the browser!) thinks like copper layers, solder mask , board,

3) FOLDERs created in the Browser tree ( which are really components ) should be IGNORED!

4) This is really a BOM view sothe qty used need to be shouw

I really think this is just another silly view with no real place. I don't know why its hidden in the team hub?

Please just add a BUTTON on the main toolbar that says "BOM" and be done with it.

then a new non-model window appears ( just like the parameter window which is really fast to edit!),

that shows a bom based on the top assy item.

allow the user to freely edit any of the columns ( AS FAST AND QUICK AS A SPREADSHEET! ), i.e name, description part number etc, add a few user define attributes, allow the user to customise the bom view, font sizes, weights, colours, column order, fixed left column,  backgrounds, images, number formatting , column resizing etc.

Also allow for multiple boms per assembly shown as variants.

Also,

We don't need a COMPONENT VIEW, we need a BOM view!

I have been asking for a BOM view for ages, which may never come, but autodesk decides to spend its resources on a COMPONENT VIEW instead, so please scrap the idea of component view, we need a BOM View!

1) Just put a button at the end of the toolbar called "BOM"

it opens up a non-modal floating resizable window ( the same style and speed as the PARAMETER window)

2) allow full customisation

3) allow full and VERY QUICK editing of all fields.

4) allow user custom fields ( attributes etc)

5) allow full formating.

6) make this independent of MANAGE EXTENSION, and the TEAM HUB if not installed.

7) don't charge extra for this.

😎make it work with electronics components and treat those components no differently to mechanical components

9) show component designators for electronic components

10 Allow BOM versions for different assembly configurations. ( which will turn on or off the components in the browser)

11)Alloww the user to double click on an sub-assembly and open it in another new floating window.

12)  Allow more than one bom view window so you can compare two or more BOM views at the same time, even in other monitors.

Treat this idea as TOP PRIORITY, more important than injection moulding, design assistance, and all the other fancy extensions!

You may not, but what I really want to be able to see in this "thing" is dependencies. That is the main purpose of this.

A BOM view - I totally agree on the need for that! - is something different.

I agree we need to see dependencies, but wouldn't that be better done in the browser tree?

If you say, select a component in the browser tree/ of the actual model, then it highlights in the 3d view and the browser and the other dependant component will highlight as well, with perhaps some kind of graphical lines/arrow showing exactly how it's dependant similar to joints . you could then display a small panel on the side that shows an actual ist of the dependant features and click on those to edit view etc?

I just think dependencies need to be shown more Graphically.

I need this too, but I need a half decent BOM system first.

I agree with both points!
