[CLOSED] Call for preview Feedback: In Process Stock caching

In process stock cashing is now available in preview with the June 2020 update.

This should be big news for anyone using CAM and we are excited to get your feedback.

If you aren’t using it yet, turn on the preview and share your feedback so we can help Fusion work for you.

A couple quick tips to get you started in the right direction:

  1. You can turn the IPS on or off from the ribbon bar
  2. If you just want to hide the IPS you can do that in the visibility settings at the bottom

Here is a link to a video I made. https://www.instagram.com/tv/CB19jRwpq75/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

I look forward to hearing from everyone.

Tim

Looks great, I'm all for anything that reduces the number of clicks I have to do.

Are there any plans to have something similar to an "interference analysis" function, where the stock can be compared to the actual model and areas of difference would be highlighted?

Thanks for the feedback @pete.oxenham It's good to see you on the forum.

Just to be clear...

You would like something similar to "comparison" in "colorization" that currently exists in simulation? Attached a pic. With maybe a visibility option that could be hot keyed on and off like the "display in process stock f8" works?

I think that would be super rad. A lot of options have been talked about but I'm not sure this is on a road map yet. I'll make sure this feedback is captured.

Cheers,

Tim

Exactly!! I didn't even know that existed, I appreciate your wealth of knowledge Tim. Hopefully its not a programming nightmare to bring that feature into IPS.

Really reduces a lot of time wondering where you have to remove stock. Sometimes you have to simulate multiple times and make sure you have the correct ops selected to really visualize the whole process. NOT ANYMORE. Thanks fusion team.

Could this feature be used to cache the STL from any operation for the next op? It would be awesome to be able to call this up sort of like the component pattern option but in the setup. Where you currently are able to select "from proceeding setup" in the stock tab, what if you could pick which setup via a drop down, then select the base component, and select the new setup component. Or have it default the pattern based on the setup model. Then you wouldn't have to have a new setup model build around that first op. This would be especially great for tombstone type of workflows.

Nice. It would help if the IPS would carry info from the previous setup as well, now it seems setup 2's IPS is generated independent of setup 1.

It does carry over if your Stock selection for the next setup is from previous operations AND you check Continue rest machining.

Its a pretty awesome feature, but like has already been mentioned it would be great to have an option to see "Comparision" like in Simulate

Good morning @tim_paul ,
this preview I find it very important, but I can not activate it. I can not give the function apply and then okay, I think I will contact Autodesk technicians to solve this problem. I would also like to ask if it is possible to add a topic on the forum for improvements for the whole manufacturing sector.
I would have several improvements and tips that I could implement.
I hope I haven't disturbed you and I would like to take this opportunity to say cordial greetings

Just noticed today that when using NC Programs it wont let you post process while its generating the in process stock even if all the tool paths have generated, as soon as I turned off in process stock I could post.

Ihaven't encountered this posting the old way

(also found I cant rearrange nc programs in the browser like you can with operations, they are stuck in the order they were created.)

Any chance that the 'Save Stock as STL' option could be exposed in this workflow (similar to the simulation option) ?

The other workflow that would be useful to me is to be able to use the section analysis tool with this In Process Stock.. I find that the transparent is great but being able to section would be awesome!

Hey Tim,

Not sure if this has been covered, but something weird happens where the stock blacks out when zoomed in (see screencast).

With that said, I've found IPS to be really useful for machining small features with multiple depths and rest machining operations. Great work!

@pete.oxenham

This is a problem for me too. I've mentioned it on another forum and they had a temporary fix that has worked. I also find it keeps coming back but if I restart Fusion it goes away. It is a little frustrating and I'm hoping this is fixed soon.

Thread to where I mentioned it before:

I'm also having this issue. I posted on the support forum but I should have added this here instead.

When stock caching in manufacture first came out I had no issues. Since the most recent fusion update whenever I click on an operation to see the stock, any rotations with my spacemouse are extremely slow and lag a lot. There's no issues at all when rotating with the mouse. Anyone else have this happening?

Liked the very interesting improvements suggested as feedback
I also second @a.laasW8M6T request on being able to reorder NC Commands

Thanks for this great feature, it changes everyday work ! 👍

Please add Preview button in the operation menus,  I would like to see CAM paths before I click OK.

I think it would be much easier than entering in the operation again and again.

Sorry if this in not the right place to post this type of suggestions, but I did nof find any active thread about UI or Manufacturing.
