Can't set dimension unit in footprint designer

Hi again,

I'm trying to use the dimension tool to measure the distance in mm between two components in the footprint editor. The unit is currently set at mic so I want to switch to mm.

When I select mm, it automatically goes back to mic. 

EDIT: even though the Unit is still at mic, the actual dimension tool uses mm. So it works but the dimensions window is showing the wrong value.

this is across the board with ribbon settings. I'm constantly resetting my "PINs to" and I've never seen the prefs hold from workstation to workstation. With the same login, I have to set up and maintain each PC I'm using. I could see if I used a different login the prefs wouldn't be the same. What's the point of a login if your setup's not retained from PC too PC?
