Helix with Variable pitch

Hi there,

I want to create a helix that starts with a small pitch and gradually changes into a larger one. Something equivalent to the pic below.

I have looked through the various forum question threads to find a solution to this problem, I see this topic was last visited in 2020 and I don't see a definitive solution just yet. Has fusion 360 included this as a feature tool yet? If not have you got any suggestions.

Hi @matthewph I don't believe there is currently anyway to do this with the coil command. There is a helix generator in the App store, but I'm not sure if that could pull it off either. Might be worth a look.

To add onto Kevin's idea. Have you tried creating 2 coil features, and then use the Combine tool to remove the coil boids from a cylindrical body? The tangency be be the hard part but this should get you close.

Hi Matthew,

Were you able to get the helix that you were looking for?

So it can be done but it isn't ideal.... After playing with it you can draw a spline like your helix from the side and use it to split a sacrifical cylinder.  Then use the split line as your path to create your helical cut body..  I attached the file I used to play with it to see if it could be done.

I don't know of any way it can be done with the Coil tool though.

Hi Dan,

Sorry for my late response, I'm quite new to the whole Autodesk knowledge network, but thank you for your solution, I've tried a couple and this one, although not as ideal as a built in feature, seems to be working.
