Shell an STL file ?

Hey,

Is there an option to shell an STL file ?

I have an imported model that I would like to shell and can't find a software to do it. maybe F360 can ?

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

Yes, You can convert a STL file to shell, I have attached video.

Note: The STL file will convert to shell only when one of the mesh facets is open. If the STL file is closed then the result will be a solid B-Rep body.

And how can I add thickness to that shell?

Thanks

In the super simple example in the screencast that represents 0.000001% of use cases you can go to Modify-Shell on the solid block or Create->Thicken on the (infinitely) thin walled object.

however, on more complex and curved/organic .stl files this will fail. For such cases I believe Meshmixer has the better tools.

I second the mesh mixer suggestion.  still hoping the full functionality of MM will be brought into fusion.  MM really is an amazing program.

is this stl file going to be 3d printed?

thats the most common use i know for stl files.

if so, just use the "vase mode" in your 3d print software.

that gets rid of infill, and the top layers, creating a vase type shape to a solid box.

like what shell does in fusion
