Parametric component descriptions

I'm loving using 360 and am building a very nice complex workshop design using the parametric design tools.

Can anyone show me how to use a parametric description for a component so that the table in a drawing will update with the desired information?

IE, I have some lengths of material in my design whos dimensions are determined by other factors in the design. Therefore, being able to set the description in the Component Properties panel to say "StudLength" would be hugely beneficial as I wouldn't have to manually update every description if a couple of parameters change.

Does that make sense?

Hi,

please share your design and tell us what dimensions you are Talking about

Hi Gunther,

I'll sort it when I can get on my machine later today. Though I'm not quite understanding how that will help answer my question?

All I want to do is use parameters in a components description. So the parameters might be

P1: 50mm

P2: 30

P3: P1*P2 = 1500mm

The items description would be just "P3" rather than me having to go in and manually add "1500mm" into the description box and it show on the table in the drawing.

This way if I were to change P1 to 55mm, the value of P3 would change, as would the description for any component that uses P3 in its makeup. I wouldn't then have to go back to every component and alter its description manually.

I don't think it is possible in Fusion today to use parameters as values inside of a drawing table.  I will check to make sure, though.

Just as a hint, this is a really interesting approach that would be amazing to have in fusion! I literally had the exact same idea 5 minutes ago and tried it out in my hopes that it was already implemented.

Well, maybe one day 🙂

Sadly it seems it's not possible or likely to happen if its just me and you!

Baffling to me that you can't do it though.
