Model Regeneration Problems

As a quick introduction, I have to say I'm very impressed with Fusion 360 and it's capabilities for a free CAD program.  I am an engineer by trade, but just started using Fusion at home to design parts for my hobbies to build in my shop.  Thanks!

I have had this problem a few times now, where I create a profile, and (for instance) revolve it.  No problem. Where I get issues with regeneration is when the profile has additional lines added to it (ie, a new groove added to a pulley) , the revolve feature doesn't seem to be able to understand I want the 'new, updated' profile used as well.  I have also tried the EDIT FEATURE command from the model history bar,  deleted the original profile, and selected the 'new' profile, but it seems to still give me a hybrid revolve between the 'old' and 'new' sketch profiles when I hit "OK" on Edit Feature.

I also tried Ctrl+B, to 'Recalculate' but that didn't do anything. Closing Fusion and reopening also does not fix anything, nor did just saving/closing the model and reopening.

Any ideas?

The screenshots below were taken in section view with the sketch profile visible. The picture of just the pulley with no dialog is what I get AFTER I hit Ok in the first picture, where the the revolve looks good.

As a side note, I can hide my 'new' screwed up pulley body, so only the sketch is shown, then create an entirely new body by using the same sketch, and it works fine.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for posting.  Yes, when you go back to edit a sketch that has been consumed by a profile, there can be cases where Fusion may not understand what parts of the sketch you want to be included in the Revolve after update.  The way to fix this should be to edit the feature, and select the portions of the sketch you want to be included.  Hint:  Hold down CTRL (CMD on Mac) to select or de-select profile regions.  It seems that you tried to do this, but did not get the correct result?  Could you record a screencast of that, because it should work correctly.  I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "it seems to still give me a hybrid revolve between the 'old' and 'new' sketch profiles when I hit "OK""

A few basics about how Fusion treats profiles in a sketch:  every single area which is bounded by lines or curves in a sketch is a separate profile to Fusion.  So, if you have this:

there are 4 separate profiles in this sketch.  This is so that you can have maximum flexibility in what is consumed:

The information about what you selected is stored in the feature.  If you edit the sketch, Fusion tries to figure out what you intended, but there are limits to that.  In the case of your revolve, your sketch went from one profile to two.  Your revolve used only one profile, so Fusion mapped that to the one that it feels is the closest to what you had before.   You could say that this case is obvious, that you did intend to add that to the revolve, but you can imagine cases where you add geometry to a sketch that you don't want automatically included in the feature.

Sorry that's sorta long-winded, but hopefully the explanation makes some sense.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for getting back to me. I did indeed try selecting the new profile in the edit feature, as you suggested, but it originally did not work for me.  I do understand the how Fusion allows for multiple closed profiles within one sketch, but this WAS one closed profile, and after the sketch was updated, it was still only one closed profile.

About 3 or 4 hours after creating this post, with no additional sketch or feature editing for this pulley, I noticed, WHAM, it was correct.  So, it may make me sound like a crazy person (I'm used to it by now), but the model seems to have fixed itself.

If I experience this issue again, I will do a screencast and add onto this post.

Thanks for your help/suggestions.
