Lock objects

I've placed some reference spheres in a project and I want to make them unmoveable and unrepsonsive to any manipulation.  

Is it possible to lock objects?  I can't find any obvious means so far.

No, I'd noticed that as well but in edit mode it still responds.

Oops.  I'd used 'freeze' object - not the choice you posted.  The problem is the menu items will disappear in different situations.  Thanks
