Issues with extruding at an angle

Hi there!

 

Q #1: I have some issues with extruding lines of letters S, r, G at 17-degrees angle. I guess the lines are a little more complex and in combination with the dimensions and angle, that I need to use, it creates a problem. But there must be a way. I tried loft it, swipe it, extrude and then chamfer it, I also made some extra construction also in a different environments, but non of it seems to work. Is there any way how to achieve the same thing as on the picture with letter N?

Q #2: I exported the sketches from Adobe Illustrator as a DXF file and as usually it makes lines sectioned. Is there a way how to prepare export or prepare the lines so they are ready for form-adding tools in fusion? For example if I want to swipe a profile along the line, I don't have to click on each section of that line separately.

It would help if you attach your Fusion 360 file as well as some of the Adobe output to the thread.

Whether or not a letter can be chamfered at a particular angle depends on its height relative to its width.

Hi etfrench!

 

Thank you for the reply and your time! 

I am attaching the fusion360 file and DXF exported from Ai. 

I also made a screencast of what I want to achieve. The letters are mirrored since I am modeling type letters with a custom made font, and it also means that the face of the letter (the sketch) has to stay the same, derfor I am extruding it downwards.

This very type of issue is common with imported curves.  I don't know if the curve was messed up to begin with, or if the conversion process in fusion mess them up, or a bit of both.  But an unfortunate truth about fusion is that curves that are imported get turned into garbage.  A bit advice that you will see all over these forums is to redraw all imported curves with native lines before doing any surface modeling with them.  You can actually get away with not doing that sometimes, but it will invariably cause issues down the line.

 

here is a pic of your G with a curvature comb on it.  you can see in the corner there that the curvature approaches an infinite value.  That is what is causing the function to fail.

@etfrench's workflow is pretty unique and efficient.

 

I use surface extrudes int the patch workspace and a few modify->extend operations to make sure all te surfaces really do intersect and then a boundary fill. It's not necessarily "better" but offers more control. A solid extrude with draft applies the same draft angle to all faces. With this method that can be different for each extrusion.
