How to repeat a sketch on multiple faces on 3D Polyhedra

Hello,

Can anyone help me? I am working a lot with geometrical polyhedra in Fusion where many of the faces are the same. A lot of the work is very repetetive and I am trying to increase my workflow speed when editing bodies. E.g. I am working on a Star Tetrahedron (see screenshot). In this particular piece I want to repeat a sketch on every face (in this case a simple triangle) on 24 faces for extrusion etc.. Some of my other designs have up to 60 equal faces!

Can someone tell me the quickest way to repeat the same sketch on multiple faces?

Many Thanks,

Cassandra

Would you mind sharing a public link of the design?

I'm thinking copy and paste is probably the only tool you could use to do this. It would work like this:

1. Edit the sketch you want to replicate

2. Select the sketch entities you want to copy.

3. Finish the sketch

4. Create a new sketch on the next face

5. Paste (CTRL+V or Command +V)

6. Use the Move command to reposition the sketch.

7. Rinse and Repeat

It may be easier to generate the 3D geometry and then create a circular pattern/mirror as necessary to generate the 3D geometry instead.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Hello Nathan,

Thanks for the instructions. I am getting that to work. However, I am encountering another issue.... When I create a sketch then copy it in order to paste on another face, Fusion 360 is automatically changing the pivot location each time I paste a new sketch. I would like to set a fixed pivot location in my original sketch so I don't have to change the pivot location each and every time I copy the sketch into a new plane/face. Can you tell me how to do this please?

Secondly, would you mind explaining from your last response, what step 7 means by 'Rinse'?

Kind Regards,

Cassandra

Hi Cassandra,

By "Rinse and Repeat," I mean that you would continue to the copy and paste procedure over and over again until the design is complete.

As far as I know, there is no option to set the default pivot point when you paste the sketch. You will have to manually choose a pivot point each time the sketch is pasted on a new face.

If there is a way to perform the pattern in 3D, instead of copying and pasting, then that is probably the best work-around solution. In this scenario, you would:

1. draw one sketch

2. create 3D geometry from the sketch

3. Use the Model > Create > Pattern & Mirror commands to replicate the 3D geometry.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Many Blessings
