How to "Convert Entities" and be able to use the lines

Hi all,

I'm from Solidworks, and had a quick question that I've been having trouble finding the answer to.

In fusion 360, I'm using Project, to project the lines of a solid onto a sketch plane. Once I do that, I'd like to actually use those projected lines as part of the sketch, to trim and modify them, and then use for an extruded cut.

Essentially, I made an overly large solid body. I had been trying to combine via negative to get the surface to appear appropriately, I'm new to Fusion 360 and didn't want to tinker with surfacing yet before I have the basic sketching down.  So I'm going this route, though that seems to be not working correctly either.

Thanks for the help!

As of right now you can't trim projected sketch entities. Vote here for this to be added.

Usually you can get away without ever trimming because Fusions sketch engine doesn't work like Solidworks. In Solidworks you have to trim but in Fusion you do not.

Projected geometry is linked to the base it references.

If we want to modify (e.g. extend) a line that came from projected geometry, we need to break the link to the base. Highlight the sketch entities you want to break and then right click on them. You'll see the option there to "break link" which will convert it to normal sketch geo.

Keep in mind if you break the link you lose parametrics of the projected geometry.

One of the differences between Fusion 360 and other mainstream CAD software is that in Fusion 360 you can exdrude several section from a single sketch to either form one cohesive body or you can create sepearate bodies and components from a single sketch.

Thus there is a diminished need to create a trimmed sketch to exactly reflect the poutline of your geometry.

Hi all, thanks for the responses.

I thought that I would be able to do that, like I had in previous sketches.

But for some reason it's not working (See Image)

Any ideas why I wouldn't be able to select the area that I'd like?
