How to Import Drawing Template into Fusion 360?

Ok, so I have a design and want to make a drawing, but I want to use an existing template I have made already.  Can I import template/title block into Fusion 360 instead of using the one that comes up default when I want to create a drawing?  Thank you

Importing a template is not currently something you can do with the Drawings Technology Preview in Fusions 360. Expect that to be functaionality coming very soon! Stay tuned.

Hi guys, Any progress on this?  Seems to be the one problem with me switching over from Solidworks.

Interesting, so the inability to change drawing template is your only problem? How about the other missing drawing features that can be found in SW but not in F360? Or you don't use em?

I'm not sure what is missing yet, but I am still evaluating. I'm sure I will find more features that are missing.

Hi Azrehan -

Appreciate the note. Would you mind telling me a little bit about what you have set up in your Template and are trying to bring in outside of the Title Block?

Thanks much,

Scott

Appreciate it - this is helpful. Were there any other drawing settings you were looking to import? I'm also curious if you are using sheet borders and how you have those set up.

Thanks much.

Hi Scott,

I believe that this was solidworks template I edited quite a while ago and have changed it when changing jobs. In solidworks lines and boxes can be added as in a sketch, to modify the title block.

This also seems like something that is missing in drawings - outside of the title block issue. Quite often I have to draw a line to dimension an angle to in a drawing, as the default positions do not always suit what I am dimensioning. Is this something that can be done in F630? For example, if I have a chair leg which is on a 5 degree angle from perpendicular to the ground, I often draw the perpendicular line as a "sketch" inside the drawing and dimension from that sketched line.

Yes please! The ability to add sketch lines so we're able to dimension from is also very important.

Hi @utekcnc, @Anonymous, @O.Tan, @Anonymous,

Just a quick update which will hopefully come as good news, the drawing's team has started work on a feature that will allow you to import a DWG containing a your title block (including the logo) and use it as a title block in new or existing drawings. I can't say when it will be ready for release, but its coming.

In the meantime, we are asking users to send us their title blocks in DWG format so we can ensure we support as many variations as possible. Any chance you could send us a DWG containing your title block? For details, see The Drawings team needs your title blocks! post.

Thanks,

Andrew

As an interim fix, it would be good to be able to populate the fields in the Fusion 360 standard template - so they were already completed each time you started a new drawing - rather having to re-enter the same information each time.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi markjohanna,

As of the update deployed yesterday (to version 2.0.2139), you should be able to see some fields in the titleblock already populated for new drawings. These include Creator Name, Date, Title and Sheet number for ISO/ASME drawings as well as Project Name and Scale for ASME drawings. Another titleblock improvement that is now available is Logo insert.

Please find the details in the What's New notes: http://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/blog/june-22-2016-update-whats-new/

Are there other values you would expect to automatically be populated in the titleblock? Please share with us.

Thanks,

Krithika

Really we still need the ability to modify the layout, add text (tolerance details, etc) and save the templates with the information added. If i'm making 10 drawings I don't want to upload and position my logo 10 times. Or am I missing something. Thanks, Phil

The title block (as of version 2.0.2685 Feb 2017) automagically populates a title from the master drawing and the date the drawing was created.
I would like to see:
  • the "Project" field populated from the Project name in the Data Panel,
  • the "Title two" field populated with the selected component name

If we can create our own title blocks, we should be able to reference variables like a drawing count (for page x of total) and important component and project info.

Thank you for your response,

I have a template from solidworks in DXF and PDF format. Is it possible to upload these?

Regards,
Adam
