File Name, Components and Sub Components - Renaming

In the attached, I started a design. This is 2 Parts Split.  Originally the file was called "ring" or something, then I got a high level PN.  I changed file name to this 248101.  However that this the High Level PN.  Each of the parts (call them Top and Bottom), now named File Name 248101 and Component1.

Problem.  How to do keep the File name and move the original started design to a component? So, then the file would contain 2 parts which I could rename to their new PN's instead of being called components (270309 and 270310)

I'm assuming you have two bodies in the component named "Component1" and those bodies are named "Top" and "Bottom"?  If that's the case, right click on bodies and select "Create Components from Bodies"  This will make them Components under the top level component which you have named "248101".  Then you can rename the new components with the part numbers you have listed.

Hi jeff.dickerson,

as  juanaviles points out, you can use the Create Components from Bodies command in the context (right click) menu on the body in top level design.

then rename your components in the browser for your two halves.

now if you want to to detailed design for each component, activate the component so you capture design intent for the component.

in this case I activated the first component and added some detailed features that are captured within the appropriate component (as you can see in the timeline at the bottom)
