Edit joint bug

Lately after I create a joint and then come back to edit it when I click on edit the joint rotates and shows up in a completely different position than it was originally placed. Oftentimes it rotates in a manner that changing the angle does not rotate it on the correct axis.
Is anyone else having this problem?

Yes, I had this today when I reassembled your "ladder" file. This may be a bug introduced in the most recent update.

If you come across it again, please post a quick screencast and perhaps export the offending file and attach it to a post.

Yeah pretty much every joint I try to edit in that file has been doing it. I have just started deleting the joint and creating a new one every time I need to make an edit.
File is linked here for anyone else intereted in checking it out.

Hello,

Thank you for sending this through.  Using the file from the OP from the other thread I am able to find a joint that is having this problem.

This behavior should be corrected in one of our upcoming updates.  After the next update if you are still seeing this please let us know so that we can continue to investigate.  I tested your file on one of our upcoming builds and the issue no longer existed.

Cheers,

It seems this bug still exists. When I try to edit a joint, the components are moving and I'm presented with the dialog for creating a new joint.

Hello,

Are you seeing the issue with your own file, or the one that was listed above?  If it is your own file can you share the file and a quick video so that we can take a look at it?  There may be some other cases that weren't resolved with the previous fix that we can investigate.

Cheers,

This was with my own file that was started about 2 weeks ago. Is there a way to privately share a specific version?

One thing I noticed, on a "good" joint, I can right-click on the joint in the timeline and select edit. On a "bad" joint, there is no option to edit from the timeline, I have to edit it from the browser tree.

What you can do is right click on the design in the data panel, choose share public link and add a password to it.  You can then send the URL to my email directly in my signature, apologies that you will have to remove text and insert a dot or @ sign, but it helps to keep things safe 🙂

Is there any chance this bug will get fixed? I keep seeing it over and over again. It's very annoying to have to rebuild joints especially ones that have an offset or rotation.

Hi Jason,

I will update our logs with the fact that you are continuing to see this problem.  As we connected over email I was able to reproduce your issue on our end with the video and files you sent over.  While the issue isn't widespread throughout the community it is obviously a problem, and a continued annoyance for you.  I will look to update this thread when I know more, but do give us some time to continue investigating the root cause. 🙂

Cheers,

I'm also unable to edit any joints. It makes the program practically unusable. Is there any news of a fix?

I can share designs if you'd like.

The first one just takes two copies of the second one and tries to put in a joint. It then can't be edited. I have much more complex examples, which basically make fusion360 useless to me.

I suspect this has to do with corrupted data within the design.

<rant>I'd hate to have to re-draw all my parts from the 2d prints just to clean this up, as that would be a lot of work. I don't care what new wiz-bang features are being added to Fusion 360, if it can't do basic joints 100% reliably, every time, consistently with no regressions between versions, the tool is not safe to use with any meaningful and complex design... I risk spending more time trying to work around bugs than doing actual work. I'm at a dead standstill at the moment. Fortunately it's just a hobby for me.</rant>

One time I tried to bill Autodesk for all the time I had lost to F360 over a 3 month period. It was a surprisingly large bill.
Needless to say I didn't get paid and it didn't seem to motivate them to hurry up and fix anything.
When it comes to marketing and bragging about the software it's "production ready" but when someone tries to bill them for the time they lost because it isn't then all of a sudden "Well you have to remember it's very new software and still in development".

Hi Nick,

Thank you for sharing this with us.  First off this doesn't look to be any corruption of your data in any regards, and I have logged it internally as FUS-34730.  I will spend some time later today or tomorrow to see if we can find a workaround for you.  The models you have created seem to be solid still, but rather it is an issue with the joint itself.

It sounds like you have a more complex scenario as well that is suffering from the same issue, so if you have concerns regarding that you can email me directly and I can help investigate that for you as well.

As we investigate the issue more I will try and update this thread with information.

Cheers,
