Drawing a grid as a template

I'm trying to draw a woodwork plan where one of the shapes is easier to cut out if you can make a paper template, stick it to the wood and cut round the outline. I've seen woodworking plans with a 1" or 25mm grid overlaid on the component and I'm trying to replicate that. Attached is the drawing of the component. How can I draw a 1" grid over the top of this? Using sketch inside the drawing isn't feasible because the usual sketch commands such as copy or pattern don't exist.

Any ideas on how I can do this?

Hi,

In design mode, create a sketch over the part and use the rectangular pattern tool to create a grid.
Then activate this sketch in drawing mode.
However, the lines appear dashed.
If you want to have solid lines you can achieve this by creating a corresponding pattern of pipes (small diameter).

Günther,

MAny thanks. I didn't realise you could turn sketches on in drawings!

Here's the result. The sketch lines didn't appear dotted (maybe its the scale - they were drawn as a 25mm rectangle then pattered).
