Converting .txt to STEP (tried renaming)

I've run into an issue where a CAD file I downloaded online is recognized as a .txt file instead of a .stp and I can't see the component when I upload it to Fusion. On my Mac, I tried renaming the file by removing the .txt extension and replacing it with .stp but that doesn't seem to convert the file. Any ideas on how to properly upload it to Fusion as a STEP? Thanks!

Try this, it worked for me.

1.-  Choose a .step file that knows it works (opens in autodesk inventor) and save a copy with other name

2.- Open it with txt editor and erase the text.

3.- Open the .step file that you want to open with inventor with txt editor too and copy the text. 

4.- Paste the text in the .step copy file (step 2) and save it.

5.- Open the file (step 4) with autodesk inventor.

It should works

Just ran into this issue again and forgot I posted this. I figured out the solution and it's actually super simple though not so obvious!

Open the .step.txt file in TextEdit > Holding the alt/option key, click "File" in the menu bar to bring up the "Save As" tab > Click "Save As" > Remove the ".txt" extension in the title, leaving only the ".step" extension > Uncheck "If no extension is provided, use '.txt'" > Upload to Fusion.
