Complete Beginner Circular Pattern Issue(s)?

I'm brand new at this or any other design software, mock me as you will I'm trying to learn.

Following along with a few YouTube tutorials on making vases, just somewhere to start learning, and they're fun. I sketch a circle (e.g. 84mm) then sketch a spline (arch, circle, square, tried them all) inside the original circle (also outside, intersected partially insides, partially outside) and go to Create, Pattern, Circular Pattern and hit the roadblock. I'm supposed to select the spline and use the tool options to create a repeating pattern around my circle. I've tried clicking, double clicking, dragging around the area, selecting the line before going to the pattern tool. I'm lost and I've gotten barely into the baby steps of this program. It's so frustrating. None of the tutorials seem to match the screens I see (in my circular pattern box I see 'Pattern Type' which I don't see on other's versions of F360).

Can anyone shed some light on this? I want to delve into this program and making vases as a 3D printing enthusiast is something I'd like to do.

There are two different circular patterns, one for Sketch, one for the Modelling area itself.

Your Picture shows you are using the wrong type,

the Modelling version on sketch articles, and doesn't work.

sketch pattern - this is not recommended - much better to make the body to pattern, in the modelling area, I would extrude / sweep / (Loft - needs more work) the spline to a single segment, then use that same pattern tool with the body.  Sketch patterns for simple jobs are still not recommended, because every dimension, constraint and edit is recalculated, when change is made in the sketch.

Might help....

Thanks for responding!

Sorry, you're losing me. If I'm using the wrong type of pattern how do I switch to the correct type?

It may not be the best or easiest way, like I said I was viewing several tutorials that have those steps, sketch circle, sketch spline, select spline, pattern. I'd like to accomplish the task just to say I did. I'll gladly try other ways but to be honest, I didn't follow your last paragraph well.

Edit Sketch - In the Sketch Menu, is the type you are looking for.

In Patch model space, I extruded the spline, and now that can be patterned in the Create menu, and this version has the additional selections box for the Pattern Type in the dialogue box, about the only visible difference.

My last paragraph - you can pattern the sketch articles, -  it is not recommended, but still works, when you use the correct pattern tool.
