Bending a revolved body

Bending a revolved body

Hi all,

I am attempting to "bend" a revolved body in a way similar to how one would use the sweep function. However, the shape i need is irregular. It is a turned spindle similar to what you would see in a chair. What I would like to do is a shallow bend along a regular radius. Are there any functions or plugins that might aid in this? I have attached a model of said spindle.

Thanks,

Chuck

If I were turning this on a lathe - the first thing I would do is line up the stock with the axis of the spindle.

I see that your Sketch1 is not lined up with the axis.  I am not sure of the purpose of Sketch1.

I am not sure of the purpose of Sketch2?

There is a yellow highlight of Mirror1 in the Timeline indicating an unresolved issue.  I would have recommended that you stop there and ask questions about how to resolve the unresolved issue.

There is a red highlight in the timeline for the Combine1 indicating a serious unresolved issue.  I recommend not ignoring unresolved issues.

I am not sure of the purpose of Sketch3.

I am not sure of the purpose of Sketch4.

I would probably delete Sketch1, 2, 3 and 4.

I would probably delete the Mirror1 and Combine1.

Assuming this part would be steam softened and then bent - I would use the Bend Part command in Autodesk Inventor Professional.

If steam softened and then bent is not the manufacturing process that would be used - I might use some other technique, but more information on actual manufacturing process would be needed.

There might be a way of using Form (freeform) within Fusion 360 to achieve your Design Intent...

Try to use Sheet Metal as a trick:

The file is in attachments, no needs for Inventor... for now at least.

Sorry. Most of those issues are artifacts of a sloppy process trying to find the best way to make the object. It will be made using a cnc router for the top half then flipped and finished.

Thanks for that tip. Going with what you did, I did a bend in both directions with text on the surface.  Here is the file.
