Export 3D object out of autocad to view in 3D within Photoshop?
Hello all,
I've a good knowledge of Maya but pretty rusty on AutoCad.
In the past I've been able to export 3D meshes out Maya and to a readable format and make 3D mockups in photoshop where the objects can be manipulated and and so on.
Is it possible to export my 3D model out of Autocad to view it in 3D in Photoshop?
Thanks for your time.
Arron.

Photoshop can't handle 3D data ... so what you can do is to create a 3D-view/perspective view in AutoCAD, render that and open that rendered image in AutoCAD.
Can you tell us more about what you are trying to do?

Afternoon,
Thanks for the reply - was looking to render out some 3D text to create a mock up of a possible large extruding sign that would be attached to a building.
As I mentioned (can't remember the format) but Maya works really well with Photoshop and I think it was fbx (once again it's been a while since I've done it in photoshop) perhaps that can be opened directly in photoshop and you can use PS's 3D mode to revolve it, colour it and so on. It's great for planning out compositions for mock ups.
In the end I was told the task needed not be that detailed so I did all the mockups in Illlustrator.
Your suggested would have been great and I'll try that in the future if need be.
Thanks again.

Hi,
what I found at google is that OBJ files and 3DS files can be imported (learned something new), I guess you can write both with Maya.
Does that help? Is that what you are looking for?

ah yeah that was it, OBJ. So I guess the answer now would be, is there a way to export 3D AutoCad files as OBJ's.
No need to look that one up though just yet - might be worth pondering.

Sorry no, no direct way.
Do you have the option to import AutoCAD files into Maya? Then you have a direct output.
Another option could be Fusion360 (import dwg and export obj).
