Trim & Escape Issues

Hi all,

I have a problem with AutoCAD 2018. When I select a few items one by one and press escape, it deselects them one by one as opposed to all at once. Also, when I am trimming, it does not trim it straight away. Instead, I have to press the trimmed piece, press elsewhere on screen and then it shows it as trimmed. I hope this makes sense as I cannot explain this in any better way. Both of these symptoms have happened simultaneously, leading me to think it may be a system variable or a command?

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and Welcome to AutoCAD Forum,

if you start a new and empty CAD drawing , does the same issue happened ?

Thats correct,

It happens on every drawing new or opened from previous save/different user.

It also happens when I offset etc.

I have tried resetting my user profile however that did not help.

OP, in your OPTIONS on the Selection tab, what's your Window selection method set to?

If by some odd chance my nattering was useful -- that's great, glad to help. But if it actually solved your issue, then please mark my solution as accepted :cara_con_una_leve_sonrisa:

Currently, it is set to "Both - Automatic Selection", should it be any other option?

so basically your system is running slow, your clicks and keyboard entries take a few seconds to complete?

Where are your DWG files stored and how do you link to that location from your PC with AutoCAD?
What are your PC specs and OS?

As far as I am aware, the problem isn’t with my pc being slow as regardless whether the files are stored locally on my SSD or our cloud, the problem persists. Other people with the exact same spec laptop are not having this issue.

>>>...Other people with the exact same spec laptop are not having this issue....<<<
Something, or something else, is totally different for you from all the others. If it was just AutoCAD it would not manifest itself in blank files or in files someone else in your office uses that they have no issues with using "...the exact same spec laptop...".

You will need to engage your I.T. folks for a solution: one quick test would be with an all new log-in for Windows to see if the problem persists or its gone, another not so easy test would be to use an AutoCAD ARG Profile from another PC and not yours to see if the problem goes away, or finally your laptop needs to be re-imaged to match all the others in the office that work just fine.

or some combination of the first and last tip.

Good luck.
