I really don't know if this is basic AutoCad or what? But I have a set of drawings (floorplans) of some large buildings.
All workstations (table, chair etc.) is set up as a block. Attributes are the number of the workstation and the initials of the current user.
When I extract the list I would love to include the position of the block, ie. where is it located within the building. I was thinking of drawing polylines around certain areas, and the extract would then need to include what polyline encloses the different blocks. Is this doable?
Or perhaps I need to work with coordinates etc?
I haven't got a lot of experience with this, so what I'm basically asking is, if it's doable for someone like me

I don't know whether data extraction [which I have no experience with] can do a combined extraction of Attributes and insertion-point coordinates, but even if it could, I see potential problems. The coordinates wouldn't likely be of much use by themselves, and I'm not sure there would be any way to tie them to a surrounding Polyline. And if you have multiple floors, you would likely have areas that cover the same coordinates extent on more than one floor, so just the coordinates wouldn't tie a Block down as to where it is.
Probably the better way would be to add an Attribute to the Block definition for a room number. That could then be extracted along with the other Attribute information, and would also cover which floor a Block is on, even if its insertion point is the same as one on another floor.

Thanks a lot. My initial thought/hope was, that when I move or create a new block anywhere in the drawing, I would be able to get the position of that block in an extract, I can then use in Excel or Access.
But I might be overthinking this. Perhaps I can just name the workstations(blocks) according to their position in the drawing and kill 2 birds with one stone. After all we dont move the workstations around very often.

Add and attribute for "Location" and when you have them places in a zone you want to separate from the rest, just highlight those blocks and in properties change that attribute.
