Two solid objects cannot occupy the same space. This is what you are witnessing and while the other suggestions accomplish what you are after they are hit or miss as to whether or not they will correct the problem. You might want to examine the Interfere command to create a solid you can subtract from one or the other solid. Or you can use slice to trim one object to the other. Depending of the geometry of the solids it can take multiple operations to get what you want. Simple flat walls/slabs should be relatively easy.
