slow mtext

When I start the mtext command and type in the text, it takes approx. 5 sec for the text to appear.  I have also been having issues with the drawing going to Not responding as the status.  I am using 2016.

How many SHX and TTF font files do you have on your PC for AutoCAD to select from?

I have 15 .shx files and 3 .ttf files in one folder and 73 shx file in another. I changed the options to not point at the folder with 73 shx files, then I restarted autocad and when I opened it back up and did a test it went from 5 sec to 44 sec to the text to show up

No, forgive me, I asked about your entire system, not just project folders for those specific files: your reported system can often be caused when AutoCAD finds 500+ fonts (shx and TTF) in all folders it access for fonts (windows fonts folder, it's own fonts folder, any other folder it its search paths that contain shx files etc.

Aren't you able to control what ACAD look at with the options Support File Search Path. I changed some of those priorities and it seems to have helped a lot.
Thanks so much for your help.
