Tool Bar visibility

Does anyone find the visibility of tool bars ridiculous?  Blobs of baby blue and orange? Really? How about black and white line work graphic you can actually see?

That is one of those questions: if you ask 10 people you'll get 11 opinions.

It is close to impossible to create icons in a way everyone would be happy.

The chance you have is to modify the color scheme ==> command _OPTIONS ==> tab Display and switch between "Dark" and "Light", chose the one you like more.

Neither suggestion has any effect on the stated issue

Colorful blobs on a light or dark background isn't really a solution.

Have you considered not using AutoCAD?  That maybe would help solve your issue.

It is what it is: if the Dark Color Scheme is of no relief, then your only other choice is to create all new icons. You might be able to grab them from your older AutoCAD setup to cut down on the design time.

There is no solution and Autodesk is just keeping up with marketing; basic icons is the new thing. Since they can't get simpler they should have more detail next time they update the icons.

Possible solutions: Increase screen resolution. Use the Ribbon since the icons are larger. Create custom Ribbon panels with the commands you use most often. Add the commands you use to Tool Palettes since they allow you to control the size of the icon. You can create custom icons and create your own toolbars. Ask on the Customization forum since someone may have already done this and could share theirs with you.

It sounds like you may just want to vent, but there are solutions that may make it a little easier.

Toolbars are old school. There is going to be a day when Autodesk won't be able to support them anymore. Embrace the ribbon in all its glory.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

And the ribbon will be old school someday...embrace the command line! (and alias editor)

The ribbon is current, buddy.

The command line is also going away.

Doubtful. AutoCAD is too entrenched in production around the world.

But I guess if they do yank the command line, maybe that will be the straw that moves us to BRICS. Autodesk has added very little truly useful functionality in 20 years and certainly not enough to justify their horrendous pricing model.

But I digress. Maybe you're right, but watching my users peck through the ribbon is just excruciating.

Oh, you're one of those. Please disregard.

lol - not only am I one of *those* (#CLEANSCREEN baby!) but I learned in an office where they had mapped all the predominant commands to keys that sit under your left hand so you didn't even have to lift your wrist up to key something silly like L for line - G was LINE! It was def insane and something I've moved away from, but good god could you draft like a demon (provided you understood what it was that you were drafting).

So yeah, seeing "the kids" coming in today asking, "You guys don't use Rhino here? Why do you use AutoCAD?" and then watching them move their cursor over to the "line" button *click* then back to the canvas and clicking the start of their line while running the perpendicular OSNAP is just.... ew.

Anyway, I'm moving out of drafting the older I get so all I have are these forums and clouds to shake my fist at!

Yes I generally use hundreds of commands with the command line. I use toolbars for a memory bank of infrequently used commands. Now not only cant I remember a command, I cant recognize the tollbar icon. Not to mention failing eyesight and now toolbar icons that seem to be designed with little regard for visibility.

This is a great idea . Direction on exporting and importing toolbar icons would be helpful

Not an easy task of for the light-hearted: first you need to extract all of those images https://www.online-tech-tips.com/free-software-downloads/how-to-extract-icons-from-exe-dll-ocx-and-c...

Then place in a single folder, path into 2019, start CUI command, select each and ever command in the CommandList that you like to use and make the substitution in that command's Properties section (at the bottom).

Which older version did you migrate from?
