Funtions Keys

I have a Envy 795-0037 Cb computer and I'm trying to figure out how I can set it up where I can hit my function keys and get that function instead of having to hit FN + F# key.  Like right now to use F8 I have to hit fn + F8. If I just hit F8 it changes the computers brightness. I want to reverse that where I can just hit F8 and it gives me F8 without hitting another button. I've tried going into BIOS but it does not give me that option to change this like I've seen other places. There is no action keys mode in BIOS on my computer. I know this is a computer problem and not an Acad problem but I'm hoping someone on here is also running Acad on this type of computer and knows the answer. I have posted this to a HP forum but got no response.

There's no specific mention of the HP Envy laptop line, but perhaps this article from HP will help?

I've read that article and tried all of that but none of that works. I'm running a deck top instead of a laptop. They tell you a lot about how to fix it on their notebook laptop but nothing for my computer. Thanks though.

What keyboard are you using?  The keyboard driver or management tool should offer lock-on for the function keys.  Possibly the BIOS as well (like NUMLOCK on some)??

What are the alternates for the function keys (brightness, volume, etc...)?

It's a wireless keyboard that came with the computer. I've looked for a function lock but can't  find one on this keyboard. It doesn't even have a numbers lock key on this keyboard. Yes all of the alternate functions are like brightness, volume control, search, settings, etc. and that's what happens first when you hit on one of these which in Acad is really annoying when you want to do something like turn you ortho off using f8. I haven't been able to find anything in Bios or anywhere about this on this computer.

keyboard model?  It should have a model number somewhere.  Maybe in the battery compartment?

Does the BIOS have a setting for "Active Keys" or "Action Keys"?

See this article...

Hi again,

Lots of frustration on the web for your silver wireless keyboard.  I found another HP discussion that ends with a pretty good sounding workaround.  It's the last post on the second page of the forum.

Maybe FN+ESC simultaneous to switch modes.  That was an older combo but maybe still works??

If not then I think your "Lifestyle Wireless" might not be useful for this.  Hate to give up on things but in the end you might need a better kb/mouse combo.

I'm starting to think you're right about just getting a new keyboard. Thanks for trying though.
