One other thing that we ran into when we did very detailed things in sketchUp to show clients. Clients get tunnel vision on one element that really has no bearing on the project and literally will care about nothing else but that one thing. Yes the drawings look great but I really find that on small projects it just causes more problems than it fixes at presentations. Maybe it's just me and my experiences.

Example: Let's say I do a nice detailed and maybe even I render it of a lobby of a community center. The township manager will be like it looks great but I really don't like those chairs. I'd say those are just example chairs. He says well I like it just don't use those chairs. I'd say those chairs don't even exist I made them up in my head and drew them. Two weeks later at a meeting 2 other people that have nothing else to contribute bring up that the township manager mentioned that he didn't want those chairs used and if we corrected that and found other chairs. Then a month later at a meeting maybe time tables are being set up and someone will be like lets move forward on this project but I just want to make sure the chair issue is resolved. /face palm

We laugh about it all the time. I could paint the walls candy cane stripes in the mock up in those later meetings and the only thing they'd say is you haven't changed to other chairs yet once they get fixated on them.

That is why I try to keep it simple. The more detailed I seem to make mock ups the more people nitpick dumb stuff in them.
