AREA command issues: Osnap sensitivity and Autosave

I'm using AutoCad LT for Mac, and I am having trouble with OSNAP sensitivity while using the AREA command.

I have adjusted the sensitivity in preferences; my osnap aperture is set to 40.  And it generally works just fine.

But when I use the AREA command, I have trouble selecting my osnap points.  It acts like the aperature is almost zero.  I have to zoom in pretty close, and even then it is still difficult to grab an end point/ intersection.  So I'm zooming in to select a point, zooming out, panning over, zooming back in.  It's a pain.

It is only the AREA command as far as I can tell.  With the same view, Osnap works perfectly with every other command, but as soon as I type in area, without zooming in, I suddenly can't select points!

Bonus question:  Why is the AREA command constantly interrupted by autosaving?  A high percentage of the time, when I hit enter after making my selection, I see an autosave dialogue instead of the area calculation.

I know I can expand the command line and view the area calculation, but this seems to happen a lot.  Like 50% of the time!  My autosave is set to 15 min...
