Slicing a 3D helix before making it a solid
Hello, I'm seeking some help slicing a 3D helix. The drawing is attached.
For a little background, this is an object that I'll be printing. However, due to the z range of the 3D printer, I need to slice the object at the halfway height (245 mm) and then join the two pieces together. I have tried doing this after I swept a circle along the design (making it a 3D solid), but when I slice it at the mid-height plane the part of the helix that is cut is flat along the cutting plane; this is to say that the cut surface is not perpendicular to the direction of the coil at that point. This will make it much harder to join the helix together after it has printed.
So basically my question is whether or not I can slice the 3D helix before sweeping it and making it a 3D solid? My thought process is that if I can do this and then sweep it after the two halves have been separated, the connection points will be flush. I've tried doing this and since it's not a solid it won't let me slice.

Command _BREAK, then option _FIRST and show your first point with object snap on the curve, as second point use @

just a thought, Looking at your other dwg with the solid, could you subtract solids and produce key ways that line the parts up for assembly. see attached. need two solids like the cube with mating male and female parts. subtract those form tow coil copies. another 2 grooves at right angles to the one I did through the coil and a second through the round rod portion would lock the parts in position for assembly.
