Red Boxes Appear In AutoCad 2018

When reading a file that was created or last modified in AutoCad 2015, into AutoCad 2018, thousands of red boxes appear on the display. I have tried turning off the hardware graphics accelerator, turning off constraints, and deleting constraints, but none of these attempts helped.

I can delete the red boxes, save the file in AutoCad 2018, and the red boxes do not re-appear. But this is time consuming as my last drawing had over 110,000 of these annoying red boxes to delete.

What are these red boxes, and how can I stop them from appearing?

I have attached an example.

If you xan delete tgem you are able to see the objecttype.
Select one and use LIST.
What is it?

Or do you insert the dwg as block to another file and it is a point?
PDMODE 65?

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

It sounds like these red boxes are points.  DDPTYPE will show you some display types for points.  A value of 65 will show the points as squares.

A value of 1 should make them disappear.  You can also use a Qselect to pick them all and then delete them.

If you select one of the squares and then look at properties, what type of object does it identify it as?

Thank you for all of the suggestions.

The PROPERTIES command identifies these red square objects as "Hatch".

DDPTYPE says points are displayed as points (upper left selection in Point Style box).

The QSELECT command was able to select all of the red squares, and I could delete them, although I have to make sure there are no legal HATCH objects with the same parameters in my drawing that I don't want to delete.

I have attached a sample file that has the red square problem. The red squares do not appear when I open this drawing in AutoCad 2015, but they do appear when I open this drawing in AutoCad 2018.

Hi @Anonymous,

Obviously you could seelct all of these hatches using a window or crossing so you are sure not to grab a legitimate hatch.  I used Qselect  to find all the Hatches that are red.  I checked the part of the drawing that appeared to be correct prior to and after deleting the hatches and it appears unchanged.
