AutoCAD 2019 Retain Changes to XREF layers

I notice (it seems) that the Retain Changes to Layers made iin the XRef command that was available in previous versions of AutoCAD in the Options dialog seems to be missing (or hidden) in the Options dialog of AutoCAD 2019 and AutoCAC Lite 2019.

The changes to the layers in the XREfs now are retained by default?  Or the command is still hidden there somewhere and has to be activated?

Please advise.

Hi,

try VISRETAIN system variable from command line , and from OPTIONS dialog ( Open and Save tab ) you will find it there . >> Click >>

Edit : The option to Retain changes to Xref layers (VISRETAIN system variable) has moved from the Options dialog box (Open and Save tab) to the Layer Settings dialog box. also you have to check VISRETAINMODE (System Variable) that Controls the behavior of the VISRETAIN system variable when it's set to 1.

It was moved to the layer manager which actually makes sense. It's just as easy to access. If that doesn't work for you, there are many ways to make accessing it easier. Complaining isn't one of them, BTW.

I have 300 drawings that I need to apply this too.. If I do this once will it apply to all drawings or will I have to open all 300 drawings and change the settings of the VISRETAINMODE

VISRETAINMODE is a system wide variable: look it up in HELP. You should be able to change it only once.

Sorry, it's a longer time ago for this problem, but I just start with acad2020 and I can't find that button, also not at the layer manager.

And why is it a system variable now? Are you sure? In former times it depends to the dwg, so it was possible to have dwgs with different option.

Cheers

If you read the posts correctly, there are two variables, one for the file and one system.

This is how you get to VISRETAIN settings:

Thank you

There was no need for me to use this little wheel there before, never even reccognized.

Now we have to use. Again some clicks more... :cara_disgustada:

Do you know, is it really a system variable now or to check and for every dwg?

Cheers

Your not comprehending the previous posts. It is said several times that there are two variables. Read the thread again, carefully.

Hi,

It is what it was all the time, take a look into your HELP[F1], you can read it in the first lines

"System Variable" is a general expression in practise.

- File Variable (like the visretain)

- Profile Systemvariable

- Installation Systemvariable

Read more about VISRETAIN

http://help.autodesk.com/view/ACD/2021/DEU/?guid=GUID-897B1672-4E09-42E0-B857-A9D1F96ED671

and about  the "new" cool VISRETAINMODE (and the powerful XREFOVERRIDE) too.
