Standard corporate resources for mobile access

Hello,
For years we have had all of our corporate standard AutoCAD resource files on our network so that we had a single point of data to maintain that everyone accessed to remain consistent.  These resource files were configured into AutoCAD via the ACAD.lsp file and it has been working well and as intended.  Our firm has transitioned completely to laptops to support mobile use, and it is now time to provide these standard resource files differently.

The thought has been to take our standard resources on the network, and via a log-in script, copy them to each user's C drive.  This would be done daily, and after the initial copy, only changed files would copy so log-in wouldn't' be extended more than needed.

Where I am looking for input is if you are currently doing something similar:

  1.  Are you keeping your standard files in it's own folder and have the support files remapped to the local locations, or do you copy your standard resources to the appropriate installed AutoCAD locations so no additional Support file locations need to be made?

  2. How do you handle locking the standardized files on each computer while leaving them accessible enough to update as needed?  I've been on the fence on making an effort to lock the files, as they'd be updated daily...  Most of my users wouldn't know/care to modify the files, but I can imagine some trying to take advantage of the accessibility.

If there are other thoughts on approach for providing the resource files to laptops, please let em know.  Thanks for any feedback.
