For the first time since installing 2018, I'm unable to replicate this issue (with high quality geometry on or off).  It has always happened and now it is apparently intermittent, which always makes problem-solving fun.  It happened earlier this week.  I haven't changed anything on my end, although who knows what Microsoft is automatically installing without my knowledge these days.

High quality geometry also appears to be working for now as well, whereas it was dumping all kinds of artifacts into the drawing when I first tried using it.  I'll continue to monitor with different drawings for different projects.
