Sometimes if I have a big area that I want to hatch, so I can't zoom in far enough to exclude all the extra data. Instead of freezing a bunch of layers I just draw a few construction lines across the area I'm trying to hatch. Then I can hatch it in a few sections so I can zoom in tighter to avoid extra calculations for the hatch command. I then just delete my extra lines. It seems to help with areas I can't seem to get hatch to work correctly on. I have a lisp that combines the separate hatches back into one also. I don't really need to combine them but sometimes I do just to make the drawing neater.
