Text Background Mask over top a screened solid hatch
I'm trying to place an mtext text string on top of solid hatch (screened color 254) so that the text will breakout the linework that is also underneath.
I try using an mtext background mask with the background of the background mask being the same color as the solid hatch (color 254) so that I do not get a big white box cutout on the solid hatch, but I either get a black box that covers the text, or I get a background color of the mtext that does not match the solid hatch even though the solid hatch is color 254 and the mtext background mask background is color 254 as well. what plots out is the text with a darker shade background than the solid hatch even though they are the same color.
Anyone know how to resolve this with using the mtext background masking background?
Note: If I uncheck "Plot With Plot Styles" in the plot dialog box my mtext background mask and the solid hatch look correct with the mtext trimming out the linework underneath but without that white background box around the text. But of course all the other linework and text plot in color and have no lineweights.

Hi @Anonymous,
Is it possible to attach your file so I can get a better visual idea of what you are trying to do? I am happy to take a look at it for you.

What version and SP are you running? I'm using 2018.1.1 - printed to a PDF and had ho problem - HOWEVER - I made sure my CTB had color 254 using "Object Color". Take a look at my attached PDF. Betcha can't tell where the Textmask ends and the hatch begins! ![]()

I use a solid hatch with a translucency of something like 70 or 80, then set the draw order to be background stuff in the back, then the mtext with a mask of background, and the translucent hatch on top. The mtext blocks out what it should but doesn't cut a hole in the hatch. The hatch is see thru, shades the area gray but doesn't blot everything out.

In your use, when you say 'screened' are you referring to the solid shaded area as being a shade of grey or the solid shaded area having a translucency.
In my use I use solid hatching with a translucency. This allows text to be placed below the hatch, based on draw order, but still legible as the hatch is see-thru. The text can still have its own masking and mask objects below itself in the draw order.

Hi @Anonymous,
I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!
Are you trying to place the text on top of that wall pouche without having the white? Is the text a MTEXT object? If so, just turn of the background mask.
If I am misunderstanding your question, please provide a small sample drawing and I will be happy to take a look.
