Please help me find the way to design this C4D model in AutoCad

Hi, I am trying to convert a model that I have designed using Cinema 4d ( C4D ) to AutoCad but I can´t find the right approach.

I did it using the Subdivision Surface and Subdivision Weight commands of C4D, where you first draw a polygon then you assign different "tensions" or "weights" to the lines, dots, or planes of the object and then you smooth it achieving a rounded or more organic model.

Is there any command or way to achieve something like this in Autocad?

Thanks!!

HI @mikogold,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

AutoCAD uses MESHSMOOTH to do something similar.  Have you tried that feature on your model?

If you would like to attach a sample model I am happy to see if I can get this to work in a similar fashion to what you have been using in C4d.

I suspect however, for this type of control you will want to explore Inventor or Fusion 360.

Hi, Thank you so much for your kind answer, I am trying to do it by myself but I am not getting the results that I need.

I just attached the model, I would really appreciate If you could try to do it.

Thanks

Hi @mikogold,

Since your model consisted of polyface meshes, I simply used explode.  This changed the meshes to 3Dfaces. Next I used Surfsculpt which changed the 3dfaces to AutoCAD meshes. From there I was able to use MESHSMOOTH.

Thank you so much for taking the time to do it!  your support is GREAT!

Is something that I am missing, how can I assign different "tensions" to different parts of the model?

Thanks again, you are so kind.

Hi @mikogold,

I am guessing (I haven't really done much in this area so my experience is limited) that it might have to do with how detailed the meshes are created. So, before converting to a solid, you might explore converting it to NURBS and modifying that way or by splitting the mesh into smaller meshes where necessary.

Another way is to adjust the FACETERDEVSURFACE variable for more or less smoothing during MESHSMOOTH.
