I am a little confused. In the first paragraph you stated you want the ESC key to pan back where you started with the command but later at the end you state you wanted the ESC to end the command?

 

It seems that you made some changes to the command alias, or CUI, or changes the some system variable in your older computer because by default, the ESC key is suppose to end commands and not return to the command like you want it.  Here is one possible solution to change he ESC key.
