AutoCAD 2018 fatal error when starting 'first' drawing as 2017. Selection prob.

Hello everybody,

I have a brand new computer with first instal of several AutoCAD Products.

I have both 'AutoCAD2018' and 'Civil3D 2018' installed (any a few others).

But i have a few weird problems...

FOR AUTOCAD2018:

When i start up AutoCAD2018 and see my StartMode screen,

When i select any 2017 DWG as 'first' drawing since i started AutoCAD, i get a instant fatal error.

FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0xffffffff Exception at c200af47h.

When i first open a 2018 template, then i can open any 2017 DWG file.

But, all selections that i make makes my AutoCAD freeze / very slow.

BUT.

When i run Civil3D as AutoCAD, i dont have any problem at all.... i can just open all files and it works like it should work.

I run on a brand new windows 2010 installment, without any past instalations of AutoCAD products.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

welcome @Anonymous!

>> Any suggestions?

Yep, please install all updates for your Civil 3D, when you start command _ABOUT you should see these internal version numbers:

(best would be to use Autodesk Desktop App to see all the available updates, make sure you are logged in and wait a few minutes so the app can refresh the update list)

Thanks for your suggestion!

Unfortunately, i already am fully updated, and the _About shows exactly the same as you show at the moment.

Afraid your suggestion is not the solution...

Hi,

when you create a new Windows user account, with admin permissions, login with that account, turn off antivirus software, then right-click the Civil 3D icon ==> start as administrator ... does that work?

Hey Afred,

That works just fine.

Civil 3D is NOT the problem.

It is the regular AutoCAD 2018 that is having problems.

Civil3D works just fine.

Hi,

Ok, same workflow as above ... does regular AutoCAD work in the other user account with admin permissions?

Testcase 1:

- I run AutoCAD 2018 as Administrator.

- From the 'StartScreen' i open my 'AutoCAD 2017' DWG.

- FATAL ERROR: ca42af47h.

Testcase 2:

- I run AutoCAD 2018 as Administrator.

- I open a QNEW in the default 2018 template.

- Works fine so fasr.

- I open a AutoCAD 2017 DWG.

- FATAL ERROR: ca15af47h.

Testcase 3:

I run Civil 3D as AutoCAD 2018 as administrator.

- I open the same file as testcase 1.

- No problem at all.

I got the idea that AutoCAD 2018 crashes the moment its supposed the show the message:

'This drawing was last saved with an earlier version of the software.

Did you try to set autocad back to defaults ?

Do you have the latest .NET Framework installed ?

Every tho i run on a fresh install.

I have 'reset all back to default'.

Also my frameworks is the latest version.

Both dont seem to fix the problem.

Is it one particular drawing or all the drawings ?

m.vanderhulst
en respuesta a: -FDC-

It happends on all drawings that were made in AutoCAD 2017.

When i open 'older' DWG's it doesnt seem to be a problem.

Even our Autocad 2017 template gives a fatal error.

But again. Only in AutoCAD 2018, not in Civil 3D 2018, als not in 'Civil 3D as AutoCAD'.

Hi,

Just to make sure: new installation does not mean that the AutoCAD profile was reset from the prev. installation.

But as you were creating a new Windows account that seems not to be an issue of the AutoCAD profile (as long as you don't start AutoCAD with an ARG-file as profile).

From your first post

>> I run on a brand new windows 2010 installment,

From your last post

>> Also my frameworks is the latest version.

Which Windows 10 are you running exactly?

Which Framework is the last you see as installed?

When you open that dwg created by AutoCAD 2017, is that always the same dwg-file (so this issue could be a file-specific one) or a dwg-file created with some tool/application (so it might have proxies including and not struggling with/without object enabler)`?

Then it must be a bad install.

Did you install the Autodesk Desktop App ?

It sometimes can help resolving errors by finding and installing updates.

It happens with all DWG files wich are 1-2 years old.

Older DWg dont seem a problem.

Im sure its not a bad install,

We have tested with a few methods.

ALL ON A OTHER COMPUTER:

Only instal AutoCAD 2018:

- No problem

Instal AutoCAD 2018 and Civil 2018

- Autocad 2018 gets 'bugged'.

Both tests where ran with a complete manual instalation and a 'automated' installation.

All above is also tested with the lastest windows 10 and netframe version, and the versions we where running on.

So with a total of 8 different test-installations, result is always the same.

I have plain autocad 2018 and civil3D 2018 running on 2 machines.

Can you send me one of the files?

m.vanderhulst
en respuesta a: -FDC-

Here are two sample files wich cause a fatal error.

One is our current template file.

One is a regular DWG of a project.

AutoCAD 2018 : Crash

Civil 3D 2018: Works.

Civil 3D as Autocad 2018: Works.

But this is not an Autcad drawing !

It looks like it is civil 3D.

Did you install the civil 3D object enablers in Autocad 2018 (I didn't)?

Civil 3D object enablers was installed so no help with that.

I do see he is trying to substitute a font.

This can give problems sometimes.

I'll check it
