Auto cad crashes when BLOCK EDIT command is selected

Hello everyone. The title actually sums it all. Whenever I try to use the BLOCK EDIT command and 99% of attempts also the MATCH PROPERTIES command, Autocad crashes. It doesnwt happen (yet) with other commands. With these commands it is akways the same.

Any help on this issue will be appreciated.

What autocad version are you using?

What graphics card?

Try the autodesk desktop app to see if there are any updates you don't have.

If you don't have it try this link:

I am using Autocad 2014

Graphic card is Intel(R) HD Graphics Family, embedded in Intel I5 CPU

As recommended I istalled the the autodesk desktop app to see if there are any updates I don't have. There are no updates to Autocad 2014 but there are definetly updates to Autocad 2015. I am reluctant to upgrade to Autocad 2015. Is there a way this issue can be resolved within the 2014 version?

Thanks

Did you try "reset settings to default" ?

(Windows Start, Autocad)

No, I do not know which settings will be reset and what information should I backup in case default settings affect my working environment in a massive way and I will have to work hard to reconstruct it..

A friend of mine is still using 2007 for that same reason (all those years he was and still is on subscription!).

But someday you and he will have to make the switch or like today, have to do a reset.

I assume that is the same reason you don't want to go to 2015?

Did you make that many customizations?

Are you on subscription ?

As you say, this is the same reason why I do not want to go to 2015. There is also another very important reason which is that I do not upgrade something which gives me all what I need just because autodesk issues a new version every year without any benefit to my purposes.

Any way, it seems that I did find a solution. I decided to install 2015 as a separate installation in order to examine if moving to 2015 is not so painfull and if it will resolve the issue. Installation failed in mid proceccess and there was an error message stasting that I have to install .NET 4.5 if I want to continue with the installation successfuly. I found .NET framework 4.7.1 in Micropsoft site and installed it. Than I checked again Autocad 2014. It seems that for the time being the issue was resolved.

So, thank you for helping. If the problem reappears I will post a message on this thread.

Thank you again

P.S. as far as I know I am not on subscription

Glad to help but be aware that computers can fail too.

Harddisks can crash.

All blocks in this DWG file, or just one?
In all DWG files, or just this one DWG file?
Is this an AEC block? As in is it specific to AutoCAD Architecture like a door or window?

Use REFEDIT command instead if you are not dealing with Dynamic Blocks: does it still crash? The command works well with blocks as well as xrefs.

plain AUtoCAD 2014? Is it fully patched and updated?

Please read previous posts for progress made on this issue.

To answer your questions:

1. it happens with all blocks and in all drawings.

2. I never use aec blocks (Maybe in the future I will)

3. I can't relate to the REFEDIT suggestion because for now the issue disappeared.

4. This Autocad is 2014 with service pack 1. I am not aware of any further updates or patches.

HI @Anonymous,

Many users of older product have had such annoying behavior.  The .NET Framework 4.7.1 seems to fix most of the unusual behaviors. I am glad you did that update and I hope that the issues remain in the past.

Finally I found out that .NET framewotk 4.7.1 was problematic also. Autocad went on crashing even if not so often.

I than uninstalled .NET feamework 4.7.1 and installed the 4.5 version instead and now it seems that the problem is solved with .NET framework 4.5. In the last few days no crashes.

I had the same problem.  It was happening in multiple drawings.  In my case the problem was with an xref that was attached to each of the drawings.  When I cleaned up the xref the problem went away.
